Xin Nian Kuai Le!

That's Happy New Year in Chinese.  This year is the Year of the Ox.  We had our Chinese New Year's Eve dinner with some customary dishes and some not-so-Chinese dishes.

We had Fish Provencale, Prawns with garlic and champagne, Fried noodles,  Pork and preserved vegetable strips and a green salad.  Our good friend Gary came over to help us eat and celebrate.

After dinner, we watched Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.

A New School Year

A new year has started and that means another school year has started as well.  This will be our eighth year using Sonlight Curriculum and the first year homeschooling three children.  One thing I love about this rich literature-based Christian curriculum is that they have tailored their curriculum to suit families with several children.  Our children happen to have the right ages that their studies coordinate: Benjamin will be studying Introduction to World History Part 1, and the older two will be studying World History In-Depth, Part 1.  This year we will be looking at the Egyptian and Greek Empires.

There's a Good Time Coming

There's a Good Time Coming book coverOur family celebrated the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the King Family in Australia on the 7th of November 2004. Thomas King and Ann King (nee Fryer) emigrated with several of their children to Melbourne from England in 1854. Their descendants, (which is potentially thousands) are listed on RootsWeb.

A book was published for the occasion called "There's a Good Time Coming! The musical KING family from Bristol to Melbourne in 1854." as well as a CD with photos available. These can be ordered by emailing genealogy [at] yewnique [dot] com.
